Are you intimidated by the embroidery functions of your embroidery sewing machine?  Come learn about the basics—stabilizers, fabric, needles, thread, etc.  You will make an in the hoop project by the end of class!

This is an introduction to Machine Embroidery and the tools and supplies needed.  The class will begin with lecture focusing on basics of ME—thread, stabilizer, needles, formats used by different brands, specialty scissors, etc.  Hooping techniques will be demonstrated and participants will learn about stabilizers for in hoop in preparation of stitch-out.  Participants will make a zipper pouch project using a free design from ME Time.

Design and construct your own kimono inspired jacket using upcycled t-shirts and jersey knit fabrics. Students will bring their own jersey knit t-shirts to deconstruct and lay out patterns to create their own one-of-kind garment. 

Students will use other knit fabrics to make contrasting sleeves and front binding. Students will learn to mix and match colors, solids and patterns fabrics to create their own unique patchwork designed BoHo inspired kimono jacket.

The Winter Social is the perfect place for members to meet. Members are the heart of ASG, and each month our chapter welcomes new members. Let’s take some time to connect with fellow chapter members—both new and long-term—and share our love of sewing. Learn about our varied neighborhood groups and meet some of the Chapter Board Members.

We also have an exciting program planned for the day! Please bring a pair of scissors and 3-4 pieces of woven fabric (about the size of a fat- quarter) to share for the appliqué project. All other materials will be provided.

Tea and refreshments will be served.
The event is free.

MacGyver's favorite tools were his Swiss Army knife, gum and wrapper, sometimes duct tape and whatever he had on hand. Participants armed with their favorite tools - sewing machine, thread and scissors will get themselves out of situations!

Learn to create your own beautiful hand-dyed fabrics! You will become familiar with the principles of color theory, fabric dyeing using Procion fiber reactive dyes, and many surface design techniques such as immersion dyeing to create color progressions or value gradations; dye painting; bleach discharge; resist techniques; shibori; stamping and stenciling.
There will be an additional $10 fee paid to the teacher at the workshop to cover the cost of the dyes, chemicals and use of the stamps and stencils that Marjan will provide.

Magic Travel Scarf Workshop

Have you ever wanted an accessory you can wear with multiple outfits?  Travel with less while adding more to your look?  Well, you might want to give the Magic Travel Scarf a try.  This scarf is great for using up your fat quarters and scraps. The hardest part of this project is deciding in what order to arrange your fabric pieces.

This will be a hands-on sewing experience where you will sew your fabric pieces together to form a scarf with a surprise feature.

Learn the history of fascinators from Maddie. She will demonstrate basic millinery techniques that are used to make fascinators, how to use millinery wire to make a wire base, and the use of various embellishments. You will have the opportunity to make one for yourself and friend!

Bring your sewing projects, your sewing machine and inspirations for a fun week of no cooking, no cleaning, no time limits, and no obligations. Enjoy good old fashioned sewing FUN.

Registration dates, rates, down payments and balance due deadlines:
Priority registration for Sacramento ASG members is September 15, 2023 – October 31, 2023. On November 1, 2023, registration will be open to everyone. A waiting list will be established when the event is full. Due to contract obligations with Zephyr Point Conference Center, registration rates increase on February 1, 2024. A $300 down payment secures your registration. Final payments are due by February 1, 2024.

Also due to contract obligations: no refunds after February 1,2024 unless someone replaces the space.

Our community of members is what makes our chapter fabulous.
Come enjoy this opportunity to get acquainted and reacquainted with other Sacramento Chapter members.
It’s going to be a fun event… we’re fun people after all!

This will be a great opportunity for us to connect, socialize with and be inspired by fellow chapter members.

Introduction to English Geometric Smocking

Are you intimidated by the embroidery functions of your sewing machine? Come learn about the basics—stabilizers, fabric, needles, thread, etc. You will make two in the hoop projects by the end of class!

You will need a minimum 5” x 7” (180x130 mm) hoop and your machine must have USB capability. Please let Kathy know what brand and model machine you have before 2/22.

Designs need to be downloaded from the following websites.
Please read through before class.

The supplies needed are found in the directions for the designs. You will need to do a little pre-class preparation for the zipper pouch (cutting, starching and ironing as directed). More information on prep work will be provided to you in February.

Kathy will provide a kit with stabilizer for both projects, cork for the needle case, and information guide on stabilizers to take home. These will be included in a $4 kit, payable to Kathy on the day of class. Correct change will be greatly appreciated.

Bring a sack lunch.
